Clare votes for changes to divorce law

THE divorce referendum has passed by a landslide in Clare with 82% voting in favour of changes to the law.
A total of 39,747 voted in favour of change with 8551 voting against.
The result is in line with national figures that will see an easing in restrictions of Ireland’s divorce laws.
County Registrar, Pat Wallace announced the Clare results of the divorce referendum at the county centre in Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis.
The total electorate was 88,273; total poll 49,704; invalid votes 1406; total valid poll 48,298.
Meanwhile, counting has just commenced in votes cast in the local election.
CEO of Clare County Council, Pat Dowling has said votes in the Ennis, Ennistymon and Killaloe electoral areas will be counted first.
When that process is completed, counting of votes in Kilrush and Shannon will commence.
