Feud Fills Ennis Streets

Members of the public forced to flee an armed gang in Ennis

YOUNG children were among members of the public forced to flee an armed gang, who subjected two men to violent beatings in Ennis town centre.

The incident was part of a feud between two Traveller families that spilled onto the streets of Ennis in the summer of 2017.

Amid a heavy garda presence on Monday, Ennis Circuit Criminal Court was shown footage of a man being struck 10 times by another man carrying a stick in front of dozens of people on a crowded O’Connell Street on July 28, 2017.

Outside the nearby Templegate Hotel, at the same time as the attack, cameras show a woman and two young children running into a building to avoid a gang of four people chasing another man.  The man falls and is beaten by another man carrying a stick.

The attacks happened hours after Damien Sherlock (pictured above) was the victim of a seperate assault in Ennis related to the feud.

Mr Sherlock appeared in court on Monday on a separate charge.
