Biggest ever St Patrick’s Comp Christmas market set to get underway

SANTA will be busy in Shannon again this festive season as the biggest ever St Patrick’s Comprehensive School Christmas market gets underway this Thursday.

In a bid to raise vital funds for local charities including St Vincent de Paul and with the aim to update book titles at the school library, a wide range of activities have been organised for both young and old alike.

The highly-anticipated annual market and craft fair has gone from strength to strength since changing to an evening market in recent years, with over 65 stalls booked to date.

This year’s fair is an indoor market which incorporates an outdoor element with a small funfair for children under 12 and a number of food trucks selling barbecue food, burgers, chips and pancakes.

The large crowds expected are set to queue in their numbers to visit the free Santa grotto where those in attendance can get their photo taken.

The upcoming Christmas market and craft fair also includes a craft area where children visiting Santa can create and post a letter in a uniquely designed postbox.

The wide range of stalls will sell a variety of goods including jewellery, clothing, decorations, toys, gifts, crochet, candles, baked goods and much more.

“We are very much looking forward to meeting the people of the community and we hope they enjoy the night,” said St Patrick’s Comprehensive School teacher, Ms Jacquie Murphy.

“Our famous school choir Non Nobis Domine, made up of past pupils and staff and run by Clem Garvey, will also be in attendance on the night to add to our Christmas spirit,” added Ms Murphy.

A ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and raffle with prizes including a signed Munster jersey will also take place as games for the fair’s younger visitors will be provided in the school’s library.

A number of characters such as Olaf, Spongebob, Mickey and Minnie Mouse will join forces will staff and students on the night while face painting will also feature in this year’s event.

The St Patrick’s Comprehensive School Christmas market and craft fair gets underway at 6pm until 9pm at the Shannon-based secondary school on Thursday, December 6.
