A SIXMILEBRIDGE man continued his county’s lucky run on the Winning Streak game show last Saturday when he came away €27,000 better off. Darrin Gardiner from Sixmilebridge was the third person in three consecutive weeks from County Clare to appear on the game show.
Two weeks ago, Breeda McMahon, from Doonbeg spun the wheel and collected €55,000 and, the week before that Aine Lamb, from Kilrush, won an impressive €61,000.
Darrin spent most of the previous Sunday standing around watching the rain bucket down in Thomond Park in Limerick but he did it with a smile on his face as he learned he was going to be on Winning Streak.
The 48-year-old Munster rugby fan is a part time supervising steward at the stadium during match days.
On Sunday he was at Thomond bright and early before the kick off was delayed until 4pm, due to the pitch being waterlogged, which meant a much longer day than expected for Darrin.
His day job is a machine operator at the John Crane Ireland Limited factory in Shannon.
He has been going out with his partner, Claire for more than seven years and she has three children; Shauna, Lauren and Fionn, all who supported him on Saturday night’s show along with his parents Mary and Paul and Darrin’s two sisters Joy and Laura.
In his spare time Darrin enjoys fishing and shooting and is a member of Ballina and Killaloe fishing club.
With his Winning Streak winnings, Darrin plans to take everyone on a holiday and will get some home renovations done while also hoping to get the chance to see Munster play in a European Cup final this year.
Darrin’s winning ticket was purchased at Hogan’s Shop on the Gort Road in Ennis. Clare’s lucky streak continues as Barbara Kelly Ruane, who is originally from Ennis but now living in Ballinasloe in Galway, will make an appearance on the next show which airs this Saturday on RTE One.
