#Ennisfleadh2016: Countdown to the Fleadh begins in Glór

THE 2016 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann was officially launched on Friday night by the Director General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Labhrás Ó Murchúm at an event in Glór that was attended by over 300 people. This official beginning of the countdown to the ‘Fleadh Down in Ennis 2016’ began with a reception and finished with a concert performed by musicians from all over the county, with the headline act being the legendary Chris Droney. The Bellharbour man represented a link to the previous two Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann that were staged in Ennis — the famous 1956 gathering that inspired the legendary Robbie McMahon ballad called ‘The Fleadh Down in Ennis’ and the second Fleadh that was staged in 1977. Other members of the Ard Comhairle of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann present on the night were Tomás Moloney and Padraig Ó Duffaigh, while the Clare members were headed up by the chairman of county board of Comhaltas Seamus Liddy, as well as members of the local organising committee in Frank Whelan, Pat Liddy and Micheal O Riabhaigh, who is the chairman of the 2016 Fleadh Committee. Clare County Council was represented by the Director of Services, Ger Dollard, while political figures from all parties were also in attendance on the night.
“The Fleadh is coming home to a place of great tradition,” said Labhrás Ó Murchú.
“Clare is at the heart of the tradition in Ireland and Ennis will make a great venue for the Fleadh Cheoil in 2016, which I’m sure will make for a very memorable week next August,” he added.
Members of the business community, particularly those in the hospitality sector, are also being invited to attend a briefing next month to hear about the latest event management plans for the hosting of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in the Clare County Capital in August 2016. The non-statutory information session, which is being coordinated by Clare County Council in its role as co-ordinator of the statutory agencies for major events, takes place in the Temple Gate Hotel on Monday, 2nd November at 6pm. The event will be addressed by Micheal O Riabhaigh as well as by representatives of Clare County Council, An Garda Síochána, Clare Fire and Rescue Service, and the HSE. The briefing takes place in advance of a formal event license application being made to the Planning Authority for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann by the Abbey Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. The event licence process also provides for submissions by the public.

Businesses interested in attending the forthcoming briefing are requested to email [email protected] or telephone 065-6846429 by Thursday 29th October.
