Clare hurler O’Connor a hit with the ladies across the pond

Clare hurler, Patrick O’Connor, says he has not been contacted by any rich American women, despite being voted the best looking Irish GAA star amongst high earning Yanks.
The Tubber clubman came an impressive twelfth in the list of Ireland’s best looking GAA stars, in a survey carried out in America by Paddy Power, but was rated highest amongst top earning women.
In what proved to be a good performance off the field for the Banner County, Dean Ryan, Jamie Malone and Shane Hickey all made the top 25 – making Clare the best looking GAA county.
The Éire Óg clubman finished 17th overall, just ahead of Malone in 18th with the Kilmurry Ibrickane man rounding off the list in 25th place.
Speaking to The Clare People yesterday, Patrick said that while he had already taken some slagging, some of his county team mates have been in contact, wondering why they haven’t made the list.
“It’s not a bad thing to be said about you I suppose but I’m not taking it too seriously. I wasn’t aware that it was going on but I’m going to take it as a compliment,” he said.
“I am getting a bit of slagging about it. I’ve given out some slagging in the past so I suppose you have to be able to take it.
“My girlfriend is aware of it, in fact it was her who told me about it when we were going to visit Dublin Zoo with our daughter. She mentioned it and we didn’t say much more about it.
“I haven’t been contacted by anyone from America anyway. We were playing Whitegate yesterday and a lot of the lads were that saying that Brendan Bugler was wondering why he wasn’t on the list.”
The poll was carried out by 1,000 American women, who knew nothing about either football or hurling, so were basing their voting solely on looks and not on skill or county allegiance.
