Rain fails to dampen water protest as 2,000 turn out in Ennis and Shannon

More than 2,000 people took the streets of Clare this afternoon to protest against Irish Water – the largest protest seen in Banner county since the Heathrow slots protest in Shannon in 2007.
Despite the wet weather a crowd of around 1,500 attended the main protest in Ennis with in excess of 500 people also marching in Shannon.
Speaking this afternoon, Clare Says No To Water Charges says they are pleased but no surprised by the numbers.
“The people have spoken today. We don’t want Irish Water. The people just cant afford it,” said Paul Whitmore of Clare Says No To Water Charges.
“We’re delighted [with the turnout] but we’re not surprised. The people of Clare are very angry.”
