Ultimate Fighter Cathal Pendred fails in attempt to save beached Doonbeg dolphin

The young male dolphin rescued in Doonbeg by Irish MMA fighter Cathal Pendred at the weekend has since died.
The mixed martial arts fighter, who was attending a wedding at The Lodge in Doonbeg, was taking an early morning stroll on Doughmore beach with model girlfriend Michele McGrath when he discovered the dolphin washed up in the sand.
The dolphin was injured but alive when the cage fighter stripped to his boxers and carried the mammal back into the water.
He then posted a photo of himself on Twitter saying: ‘I just spent an hour in the sea at Doonbeg trying to save a baby dolphin. He was very hurt but alive and well now!’
Unfortunately, the dolphin died on Sunday night and washed up on to the beach on Monday morning.
