Scariff handballer Diarmaid Nash into last eight of US Open Handball Championships

By Ozer McMahon

Scariff man Diarmaid Nash today takes to the court in the US Open handball quarter-finals against number 1 seed, Luis Moreno. Having convincingly navigated his way through his opening two rounds, Nash now faces the tournament favourite in the last eight.
Nash, who represents Tuamgraney Handball Club, has accumulated considerable success on the world stage already, with World Championships at under 15 and under 23 level and a runners-up position in the under 19 World Championships. Also as a former Clare underage hurler at every level up to under 21 and a Fitzgibbon medal winner with NUI Galway, he is certainly a man of sporting prowess.
With World Number 1 Paul Brady missing this year’s competition, the field is deemed to be wide open with no one person commanding the favourites tag quite as forcefully as Brady had during his five year unbeaten run between 2005 and 2009. The task of facing the number 1 seed won’t daunt Nash who is making the transition from dominant underage player to highly competitive adult player seamlessly.

Nash takes to the court at 5pm Irish time today and his match will be streamed live on
