Where has the county board gone? WHERE has the Clare County Board gone? On holiday with Brian Cowen in Connemara as he dodged the gathering economic crisis, or maybe down to God's country of the Kerry Gaeltacht with Bertie Ahern as he goes into dress rehearsal for his debut performance as Road to Croker presenter, or maybe they've stayed closer to home and buried their heads in the sands of Lahinch, Doughmore or Fanore. Wherever they are, it's a joke. Why? Well the hurling world knows that the board should have been recalled from its summer recess of a month to go into emergency session and discuss the Munster Under 21 final. From The Ditch has waited patiently for this call to order. The first date was August 1, the night after the debacle at Cusack Park. Then there was Tuesday, August 5, because Tuesday is the traditional day for board meetings. However, those ships passed in the night, just as August 12 did, while there is no county board meeting scheduled this week. It should have happened lads, but it's too late now. Tipperary play Derry in the All-Ireland Under 21 semi-final in Mullingar this Saturday. The team have been let down by the county board. Let down badly. Back to the football future? ![]() CLARE football can certainly take all the good men they can get, given the place in the basement of the inter-county sphere that the game is enduring these days. So it's with open arms that county should be welcoming back one of its most notable exports Michael Comyns. The Kilkee man is a member of the Clare diaspora no more, having recently returned to take up duty as new Garda Superintendent in Kilrush. Comyns won senior championship medals with the Blues in 1984 and '89, captaining the side to their stirring replay win over Doonbeg in Cooraclare in '89. He later transferred his club allegiance to the famed St Finbarr's club of Jimmy Barry Murphy, Donal O'Grady, John Allen and Dave Barry fame. Now that he's back in Clare maybe he could get involved in the game again. With the Blues, with Clare, with.... Not good enough lads and lassies CLARE'S under 16 ladies footballers were supposed to be in All-Ireland final duty in Kilmallock on Sunday against Tipperary. Supporters, reporters and photographers made their way to the the Limerick venue only to find that game had fallen victim to the weather. Word from the top table of the ladies game is that the pitch was unplayable, something they announced on the Saturday night, even if this missive didn't make its way to some of the fourth estate. Too bad, you may say, but they have a point when you consider that Kilmallock wasn't unplayable after all. A number of games were played there on Sunday, which showed that the ladies footballers are still - wrongly - the poor relations. Fantasy soccer hits the web While there have been several calls for The People's Team to organise a fantasy league for local soccer this season, there was not enough time to coordinate a league for this season but plans are in place to bring local soccer on par with their gaelic games counterparts next season. In the interim, perhaps soccer fans could test their managerial credentials by joining The Clare People's English Premier League fantasy football league on www.fantasy.premierleague.com Once you have logged in and entered your team, click on the 'Leagues' link you can find on the right of the page. Now enter the code 903574-164948 to join the private league called The Clare People. There is also a link provided on our homepage.
