CLARE, north Clare and most of all Kilfenora lost a great one the other week when Mickey McCormack passed away. The term legend in his own lifetime is plied far too much in this sporting life, so much so that it’s a devalued currency. However, Mickey McCormack from Tullaha in Kilfenora was one such legend. He really was. Met him only the once, but it was enough to know that the word legend fitting him like a glove - a boxing glove of course. He was a gentle giant who you were the better, and much the better, for meeting along your journey. All because Mickey’s breed are now in very short supply - they’re dying out, but Mickey’s stories should continue to amuse and enthrall. One morning last year, that stretched into the afternoon, Mickey passed on some of his stories. They were some of his life experiences, told through football, boxing and much more.
