Clare was one of only six counties which saw the number of people singing on for dole payments decline over the past month. According to figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), only Clare, Kerry, Wexford, Roscommon, Meath and Monaghan saw a drop in numbers on the live register between April and May. The CSO figures also showed how much the live register increased year-on-year on a county-by-county basis. While the increase in Clare was relatively low at 6 per cent, other counties such as Tipperary and Kilknny experienced increases of 20 and 16 per cent respectively.
