Hurling spirit in the Mills
Written by Marty Morrissey
I knew my timing was going to be a little tight but being as an optimist I remained hopeful till I got as far as Salthill. Stalemate. Traffic going nowhere. It took over an hour to get from Salthill to the Eyre Square area of the city. Considering I was only leaving Pearse Stadium, I really didn’t get that far, did I? The plan was simple. Get out of Galway as quickly as possible and head for O’Callaghan’s Mills for the official opening of Pairc Naomh Padraig by the President Elect of the GAA Christy Cooney. A Clare versus Galway Senior hurling challenge was on the menu and as championship time is now upon us that was quite appealing but traffic put an end to my hopes. So the plan was abandoned and I went for dinner instead. But I was kept well informed of what was happening in East Clare.
