IT’S a little over three weeks until the nation votes to ratify the Lisbon Treaty, yet the majority of us still have no idea what the whole thing is about. A recent survey in The Irish Times suggested that a staggering 48 per cent of those questioned were confused about the treaty, with a further 29 per cent admitting to being terribly hungry and wanting to go back to bed with a wet flannel on their heads. It is therefore the prerogative of respected columnists like myself to wade through the Eurojargon, and impart my voluminous knowledge of the subject to you, the impressionable reader, so that you in turn can make an informed decision on June 12. Having read the entire Lisbon Treaty (which I found to be similar to the EU Constitution but without the laughs), here are a number of the more contentious components, which you might want to consider. They are taken from near the back of the Treaty, hastily scrawled in magic marker.
