MORE than 160 people got stoned in a village on the edge of the Burren at the weekend while uniformed gardaí looked on. And not one arrest was made. But while the occasion might have been wacky, it had nothing to do with baccy and everything to do with accuracy of the eye when it comes to smashing a glass target. The ninth annual World Stone Throwing Championships, held at the Inchiquin Inn in Corofin, attracted a huge crowd last Sunday. Pub owners, Anne and John Campbell have hosted the competition from the start and said Sunday’s event was “one of the best yet”. “The sound effects were smashing,” Anne told The Clare People.
