A FALL off a stool in an Ennis pub resulted in a doctor breaking his hip and led to a man being convicted of assault - after a court heard conflicting evidence as to how the fall occurred. Ennis District Court heard that Mr Mohammed Iqbal sustained the injury in an incident at Cruise’s bar, Ennis, on July 21, 2007. Arising out of the incident, Gerard O’Donnell, a married farmer, of Clonmoney, Crusheen, was charged with assault causing harm. Inspector John Galvin told the court that Dr Iqbal and a number of friends were in the pub. It would be alleged by the State that he was sitting on a stool, when the accused “insisted on shaking his hand. In the process he pulled him off the stool. He broke his hip.” Dr Iqbal told the court that he noticed the accused staring at him. Registration is required to view this content, registration is FREE |
