New landfill for east Clare
Written by Gordon Deegan
CLARE County Council has granted planning permission for a waste facility in a rural east Clare location to half the capacity of the Inagh landfill.
After a two-year campaign, Clare Waste and Recycling Ltd finally secured planning permission for a waste recycling facility which will have the capacity to deal with 25,000 tonnes of waste a year by 2011. The council’s existing landfill at Inagh is licensed to deal with 56,000 tonnes a year.
The east Clare facility will be located on a 10-acre site near Tuamgraney and the council stated that it was satisfied that “there are no better alternative sites available for the proposed development”.
