Logue’s Lodge, Ballyvaughan
Written by Cormac MacConnell
SOMETIMES even a hardened old hack like myself can be shocked to the core. It does not happen often but when it does it is always unexpected. Last time it happened to me  was in Logue’s Lodge pub/restaurant in Ballyvaughan last Wednesday evening. There is no more peaceful place in Clare. So I’m sitting in the front bar in front of the loudest roaring coal fire and underneath a sign saying I can have freshly baked scones if I wish when this peach of a story tumbles down into my lap.
When you get a story like this, which is of widespread public interest and which bristles with dark intrigue, then you are as duty bound to release it as a doctor is to try and save the life of somebody knocked down on the public road. I had gone into Logue’s Lodge in the most serene of moods to add another chapter to this series and was not thinking about what we call ‘hard news’ at all and suddenly my day was changed. And dammit now I have to tell ye all a highly-charged story with many implications for all of us. I’d far rather write about pints and folklore but I have my priorities straight.   Registration is required to view this content, registration is FREE
