| The Man Utd of Clare soccer |

In my younger days I had the pleasure of playing with two famous soccer clubs in West Clare. The first was the mighty Western Albion led by our great and esteemed leader Ollie Gallagher from Doonbeg. He was our Alex Ferguson. He was our Messiah. The team drew it’s players from the hotbed of soccer wastelands like Doonbeg, Cooraclare, Miltown, Bealaha/Cross and my own villages of Mullagh and Quilty. All great GAA footballers but the silky skills of association football were to be honest, sadly lacking. But the crack was mighty. Togging off on the side of a ditch beside a pitch that was either crooked or with a huge hill running straight down the middle was a regular occurrence. As for a shower afterwards - what was that? Never heard of such a thing. Registration is required to view this content, registration is FREE |
