| Hopes high in Miltown as Michael moves |

WHERE I come from, Doonbeg and Miltown Malbay are our greatest rivals. Éire Óg, Wolfe Tones and Kilkee may occasionally get in on the act but nothing compares to the three parishes along what I like to call the “Mediterranean Strip” - from Miltown to Quilty/Mullagh/Coore and on down the road to the long village of Doonbeg - when they meet on a football field. Anything is possible - from brilliant football to all-out war. Sandwiched between two football strongholds we in Kilmurry always took particular pride when we knocked either of our neighbours off their perch and I’m sure the feeling was mutual when they beat us. Like any high-octane relationship, sometimes this passion spilled over and I can recall a few matches in my time, from under-age to senior, not quite seeing the full 60 minutes!
