| Moroney will be missed in Munster |

It certainly rocked my cage when I heard the news. Simon Moroney was gone from the Munster Council. Why? What happened? Resigned over fundamental differences it seems over the management and infrastructural arrangements of the council. It felt like he was only there a wet week as they say - in fact he was appointed four years ago this month but the reaction from grassroots within the province right up to the head honchos in Croke Park was that he was doing an excellent job. It couldn’t have been easy at the beginning when you have to replace “a living legend” like Donie Nealon. Donie was a brilliant Tipperary hurler in his day and became the official Munster Secretary in 1977 before resigning in 2004. That’s a long time. So to get the job in the first place and then to replace a man of Donie’s stature was a huge challenge. But you know what? Simon Moroney did that and much more.
