INTER-COUNTY footballers and hurlers everywhere marked a line in the sand last Friday when voting to take strike action from January 1 should the GAA fail to step up to the plate and implement the grants scheme facilitated through a government grant of €5 million.
It was a predictable move by players the country over, but a right move. After all, players are the currency of the GAA, the cash-cows for the association, the jewels in the crown, etc, etc,.
Call them what you will, but those who are preparing to down hurleys and kick footballs to touch are those who have made the GAA the greatest social movement Ireland has ever seen.
A share of a €5 million grant from government isn’t too much to ask for. That’s why they have every right to strike for their rights. Registration is required to view this content, registration is FREE
