Killaloe filmmaker reeling in success

Killaloe's Oisin McKeogh and Rebecca Jones have been rewarded for screening of 'The Secret Life', winning the 'Audience Award' at the recent Limerick heat of 'Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year' competition

AN aspiring young Killaloe filmmaker is set to represent the Banner County at the prestigious annual Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year competition.

17-year-old Oisin McKeogh is amongst the competition’s finalists following recognition for his short films ‘Ode to a Dancer’ and ‘The Secret Life’, both which are set to be screened at this year’s finals.

‘Ode to a Dancer’ portrays a teenage girl who begins to question her dream of becoming a dancer, while ‘The Secret Life’, starring 17-year-old Killaloe native Rebecca Jones, is a documentary about a girl struggling with her inner demons.

During the recent regional heats, which took place in the Belltable Arts Centre in Limerick, Oisin and Rebecca were rewarded for their efforts as the screening of ‘The Secret Life’ was announced as the winner of the ‘Audience Award’.

Killaloe fimmaker, Oisin McKeogh, is amongst the competition’s finalists following recognition for his short films ‘Ode to a Dancer’ and ‘The Secret Life’, both which are set to be screened at this year’s finals.

As both films advance to the national finals, Oisin described his experience at the heats as “exciting”, saying, “it’s my fourth year entering Fresh Film Festival and I’m looking forward to seeing my films on the big screen.”

Expressing her delight at the announcement, Rebecca said that the duo are “both overjoyed” with winning the award for their production.

“Being recognised by your peers is the ultimate compliment,” she said.

Films shortlisted for the final will be screened at Fresh Film Festival in Limerick from Monday, March 25, to Saturday, March 30, from which Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of Year awards will be decided.
