Limerick Triathlon Club will host the 30th annual Hell of the West Triathlon in and around Kilkee this Saturday, June 28th. The longest running triathlon event in Ireland, this year it doubles as The Triathlon Ireland National Championships race.
Over 1100 people will travel from far and wide to participate in a race deemed by many as the top triathlon in the country. The Hell of the West is an Olympic distance triathlon with a 1500m swim in the pristine waters of Kilkee’s Blue Flag beach, a 44km cycle on the infamous West Clare roads and a 10km out and back run on the spectacular cliff top coast road. This is all followed by the best after-race party in the country.
As the National Championship, race the organisers expect to attract the Irish top 10 male and female athletes. The race also draws a hugely loyal group of athletes who travel annually – many racking up over 20 times completing the HOTW [Hell of the West].
The race attracts families racing together crossing generations in the process. There are athletes aged from 19 years to 67 years registered for the main event. In addition to this there are two children’s races with the Splash and Dash racers ranging from 4 to 10 years of age, and the Kids of the West Triathlon for those 8 to 16 years.
