IN an exclusive interview with The Clare People this afternoon Eric Trump, son of Donald Trump and an integral part of his father’s organisation, spoke of the family’s excitement at their purchase of Doonbeg Resort and Golf Club today.
Eric (30) is Donald Trump’s third eldest son, Executive Vice-President of Development and Acquisitions, at The Trump Organization, and directs all new project acquisition and developments throughout the world.
“We’re really excited about Doonbeg and can’t wait to add the Trump touch to what is already a true diamond of a world class hotel and golf course,” he told Editor of The Clare People Emmet Moloney on Tuesday.
So how soon can we expect to see the Trump touch being added to Doonbeg?
“We’ll be there tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon,” Eric told us.
The Trump Organization don’t hang around when it comes to business and Eric was clear about what this purchase means for Clare and Doonbeg.
“It will mean jobs and investment for Doonbeg. This is our 16th hotel and golf club and when The Trump Organization get involved in a project like this, our aim is to make it the best in the world. That’s what we will be doing in Doonbeg and we will have fun doing it too.
“We’re thrilled to have bought Doonbeg and we aim to invest a lot of money, adding the Trump touch with renovation and building. We buy assets and always make them better. That’s will be our plan for Doonbeg, which is already world class,” Eric said.
The Irish connection with the Trump family is very strong, especially with Eric who credits Bridget Carroll and Dorothy Curry, two Irish women who played a formative part in his growing up as a child and gave him a real connection to Ireland.
“While I have never been to Doonbeg, I have been in Ireland, North and South, on a number of occasions. So I’m really looking forward to seeing Doonbeg for myself. I’ll be there tomorrow afternoon actually,” he told us.
While neither Eric or Donald Trump have played Doonbeg, their brother Don did last year and his opinion of the golf course greatly piqued The Trump Organization’s interest in the property when it became available.
According to Eric, Donald Trump’s passion for golf is what drives The Trump Organization’s acquisition policy.
“I don’t know anyone in the world who is as passionate about golf as my father is. He’s a scratch golfer and just loves the game, he’s really enthused about Doonbeg,” reports Eric, who plays off a mean 14 handicap himself.
With the uncertainty that surrounded Doonbeg Golf Club now well and truly dispelled with the Trump announcement today, what can Doonbeg expect in the coming days, weeks and months?
“The Trump Organization are coming to Doonbeg to bring investment, more jobs and to ensure the resort and golf club is truly world class and recognised as that. We’ll also have fun doing it!” added Eric.
