GARDAÍ have arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Ennis in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
The 22-year-old man was arrested in the Ennis area yesterday evening.
He is being questioned at Ennis Garda Station today in connection with the alleged discharge of a firearm. It is believed he is from the Ennis area.
Shots were fired at a family home in the Childers Road area of the town shortly before 5am on New Year’s morning.
A 46-year-old man was initially arrested by gardaí, but was later released without charge.
No one was injured in the attack, but windows and the front door of the house were damaged. A husband and wife and seven children including a one-year-old girl were in the house at the time.
The man is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act. Subject to authorisation from the Chief Superintendent and the Courts, he can be detained for a maximum period of 72 hours. Gardaí in Ennis issued a renewed appeal for information earlier this week. A garda spokesman said today investigations into the matter are continuing.
