SHOPPERS were lucky to escape serious injury when a car ploughed into the front window of one of Ennis’ busiest supermarkets.
The driver of a white van narrowly avoided members of the public when he accidentally reversed through the window of Lynch’s Centra in the Gort Road area of Ennis.
Initial reports suggested the driver smashed through the widow after his accelerator became jammed. Gardai have attended the scene.
The incident occurred at around 8.30pm. Five people are being treated in hospital for injuries following the incident.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a major search is underway in Ennis following reports that a person was seen in the River Fergus. A Coast Guard Rescue helicopter is involved in the search along with Clare Fire Services.
