Gardaí have arrested three men following the fatal stabbing of a man at a house in Ennis during the early hours of this morning.
The 31-year-old Polish national received serious stab wounds and died at Shannon Airport as ambulance personnel attempted to have him air lifted to Cork.
The incident occurred at Sandfield Mews, Ennis, at approximately 1am this morning.
It is understood that the victim lived in the Shannon region and at sheltered accommodation in Ennis.
A second injured man was discovered a short time later near the scene of the initial incident suffering from injuries which are not life threatening.
It is believed the 39-year-old was attempting to escape from the melee at the house when he sustained an ankle injury.
He has been taken to the University Hospital Limerick.
Three men, two Irish and one Polish man, have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently detained at Ennis and Shannon Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.
A knife, believed to have been used in the attack, has been recovered at the scene.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the incident room at Ennis on 065-6848100, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
The scene has been preserved for a Garda technical examination. The services of the State Pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau have been requested.
