Planning is already under way to celebrate Brian Boru 2014 in Killaloe, following a meeting last week which has started the ball rolling. A floating stage which would move to different areas around the river and lake for performances, the erection of a statue or monument to the last High King, long-boats sailing up the river and a massive marketing campaign were among the many suggestions raised at a meeting to begin preparations for the biggest party the twin towns of Killaloe and Ballina will see for a long time.“We need this to be an event which is marketed on an international stage. International branding and marketing are vital if it’s to be a success so we are also planning to meet with Fáilte Ireland, Shannon Development, Clare Heritage, East Clare Tourism and, we hope, Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin well in advance of the date,” said local businessman John O’Shea who organised the meeting for all interested locals last week.
